Learn about a ghost ship, the TITANIC of the Great Lakes, a fireboat on fire and a plague ship on the bottom of Lake Michigan.

The Great Lakes Marine Collection has been at the Central Library since 1959 and among other historic information, contains over 12,000 files on vessels that sailed the Great Lakes. Located in the Humanities Room, the collection showcases many primary sources as well as many ship models, including the EDMUND FITZGERALD, paintings by famous artists as well as marine navigational instruments and artifacts. Of interest to divers, genealogists, or anyone interested in learning more about Great Lakes history. Learn about a different aspect of the Great Lakes Marine Collection each month.
