This installment of "From the Archives" will include a lecture and discussion by Madison architectural historian Michael Bridgeman about the great early modern Brook Sevens house.
Please join Docomomo US/Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Architectural Archive, and the Milwaukee Public Library on Tuesday, November 18th, for a lecture and discussion by Madison architectural historian Michael Bridgeman about the early modern 1939 Brooks Stevens' residence. Stevens is well known for designing the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile, the Olympian Hiawatha train car for the Milwaukee Road, Harley Davidson motorcycles, and the Excalibur sports car. Milwaukee modernist architect Fitzhugh Scott Jr. collaborated with Stevens to create a unique curvy concrete and glass structure, with the first floor focused on entertainment.
Scott's original hand-drawn architectural plans will be on display for this event, which will take place on the 2nd floor of the Central Library in the Frank P. Zeidler Humanities Room. Doors open early at 4:30 pm to view a mini-exhibit and rarely seen materials from MPL's Special Collections.
Michael Bridgeman is heavily involved in the Madison architecture community. He has volunteered for the Madison Trust for Historic Preservation, served on the Madison Trust board, guided historic architecture walking tours, hosted two PBS Wisconsin programs about historic buildings, researched National Register nominations, and volunteered for the State Historic Preservation Office.
