Community RoomAs part of Civic Season and America250, you are invited to a powerful community dialogue, book club, and book swap hosted by MPL and ABHM.
The Milwaukee Public Library is partnering with America's Black Holocaust Museum as part of Civic Season.
5:00-6:00pm: Join us for an open community dialogue as we approach the 250th anniversary of the United States. Hear from local scholars, organizers, and activists about how their work intersects with America250. We will also review the community Wish Walls featured at several MPL branches.
6:00-7:00pm: A book club discussion of Annette Gordon-Reed's groundbreaking 1997 study, Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemings, which details the relationship between Thomas Jefferson and enslaved woman Sally Hemmings. Participants are encouraged to read the book in advance. Check out a copy of this book or Gordon-Reed's 2008 book, The Hemingses of Monticello: An American Family, from your Milwaukee Public Library.
7:00-7:30pm: A community book swap will be facilitated. Bring in book to pass along to a new reader in exchange for a different book to take home! If you don't have a book, one will be provided for you.
